Does the mark actually sit in a rubric band
After each mark is given, it is checked against the bands the rubric sets out. A mark claiming a band the rubric does not contain is flagged, and that flag reaches the final verdict. The check runs before the decision, not after it.
How it is done today
The uncomfortable part of automatic marking is that the mark looks reasonable but you cannot say which band of the rubric it came from. The teacher either trusts it or re-marks the lot. There is nothing in between that can actually be checked.

Does this work without uploading the rubric file?
Not fully. A flat list of criteria and totals carries no bands through to the marker, so there is nothing to check against. The full rubric document does carry them.
Is a mark voided if its band does not fit?
No. It is flagged, its confidence drops, and the flag reaches the verdict. The mark itself does not change; changing it is the teacher's decision.
Does the check run after the decision?
No, before it. That is deliberate: run afterwards, a fabricated band would be recorded once the decision was already made and would serve no purpose.
Does this catch every wrong mark?
No, and we do not claim it does. It checks whether a mark sits in a band the rubric defines. A mark in the right band for the wrong reason is for the teacher to catch.
