Opening a script-checking session
A teacher opens a session and attaches the question paper and the marking rubric. The session is created immediately while reading the rubric and parsing the paper carry on in the background, so nobody sits watching a spinner. No credits are spent at this step.
How it is done today
Before sitting down with a hundred scripts, a teacher has to settle how many marks each question carries, which ones offer a choice, and how much latitude an answer earns. Those decisions usually live in the teacher's head rather than on paper, so the first ten scripts and the last ten are not marked to the same standard.

Does creating a session cost credits?
No. Creating the session, reading the rubric and parsing the question paper are all free of credits. Credits begin to be spent when you add scripts.
Can a session be opened without a rubric?
Yes. If you supply none of the three, a rubric file, the paper as text, or a photo of it, the session opens ready straight away and no setup work runs.
Do you have to wait for setup?
No. The session is created and comes back at once while setup carries on behind it. These two calls used to run in the foreground with the teacher waiting.
Can a rubric be generated repeatedly?
Yes, within a limit of twenty calls a minute per teacher. Past that you are asked to try again shortly, and told how many seconds to wait.
