Every row is checked before the list goes in
In step three of a ClassTablet import every row is checked: no name, neither email nor phone, or a phone number that isn't Bangladeshi shows as an error. A row whose email already has an account is set aside as a duplicate, and the admin decides whether to skip it, update it or add that person to the institution.
How it is done today
A typed-up list always has mistakes: a phone number one digit short, the same student entered twice under two sections, an empty name cell. These usually surface after accounts are opened, when someone can't log in or one student ends up with two profiles.

Finish matching the columns
In step two, ClassTablet warns and won't move on until at least Name and either Email or Phone Number are matched to a column.

Read the validation results
The step three table shows each row's name, email, phone and issues, with a status of ready, warning, error or duplicate.

Understand the errors
Rows with no name, a malformed email or a phone that isn't Bangladeshi are left out of the import. The same email twice in one file raises a warning.

Decide on each duplicate
See the file's data beside the existing account, and whether that person is already in your institution, then skip, update or add them to the institution.

Frequently asked questions
Which mistakes are caught?
A missing name, no email and no phone, a malformed email, and a phone number that isn't Bangladeshi. These are errors, and those rows are left out of the import.
How are duplicates recognised?
By email. If an email in the file already has a ClassTablet account the row is marked as a duplicate, along with whether that person is already in your institution.
Do we have to re-upload the whole file if there are errors?
No. You can import everyone else and leave the error rows out. Fix the few that were skipped in the file and bring them in separately later.
Will an existing student's details be overwritten?
Only if you choose Update, which refreshes the name and phone number from the file. Choose Skip and nothing about the existing account changes.
