Telling teachers what an import gave them
When teachers and classrooms are brought in from one spreadsheet, each teacher is told which classes they were put in charge of. The notice carries the classroom name and reaches them in the app, by email and by SMS. The whole thing can be switched off before the import runs.
How it is done today
Having pulled a hundred students and twenty batches out of a spreadsheet at the start of term, the biggest job is still ahead: telling each teacher which batch is theirs. The office rings round, half of them do not answer, and somebody's class starts on day one with no teacher in the room.

Which teacher belongs to which classroom is collected as the rows are processed, so nothing has to be matched up again afterwards.

Teachers who were already on the books and teachers created by this same import both get told about the classes they were given.

The notice appears in the app, goes out by email and goes out by SMS, so it still lands with a teacher who has not opened the app yet.

A teacher given three classes in one import gets three notices, but not repeated ones for the same classroom out of the same job.

A failed notice does not undo the import
If a notice cannot be raised, that is recorded as a warning while the imported records themselves stay exactly as they are.

Frequently asked questions
Can the notices be turned off?
Yes. The import has a switch for notifying teachers, and turning it off means nothing is sent. It is on by default, so there is nothing to enable for the usual case.
Does it arrive as a push notification too?
No. This notice has three routes defined: in the app, by email and by SMS. Push is not one of them, so a teacher will not get it on the lock screen.
Can a teacher accept or decline from the notice?
No. The assignment is already made by the import and the notice reports it. Changing who teaches a class is done by an admin from the classroom's teacher list.
What if a teacher has muted this kind of notice?
Then it is not sent to them, because this notice belongs to a category that can be suppressed. They can turn it back on from their own notification preferences.
