Keep last year's batches out of this year's list
Setting a classroom's status to archived takes it out of the active list and puts it in the separate list of archived classrooms. This is a status change rather than a deletion, so the classroom can be set active again later and comes straight back.
How it is done today
Three years of teaching leaves thirty batches in the classroom list, most of them long finished. Finding the one you are actually teaching means scrolling past all of them, and posting an announcement to the wrong year becomes very easy to do in a hurry.
How it works

Open the classroom
Open the batch you want to put away from your classroom list. The control for the classroom's status sits there.

Set the status to archived
The status choices are active, draft and archived. Choosing archived takes the classroom out of the active list.

Find it in the archived list
Archived classrooms have a list of their own. The old batch sits there rather than disappearing anywhere.

Bring it back when needed
A classroom can be made active again from the archived list, at which point it returns to the active list as it was.

Frequently asked questions
Is archiving the same as deleting?
No. It is a change of the classroom's status. The classroom stays in the archived list and can be made active again from there.
Do students still see an archived batch?
The classroom leaves the active list, so it is no longer in front of anyone. It stops counting as a batch you are currently running.
What if I archive one by mistake?
Set it active again from the archived list. Nothing is lost, because archiving does not delete anything in the first place.
