Close the quiz and late starts stop happening
When a quiz's window is over, a teacher can close it from the editor. Nobody can start a new attempt on a closed quiz, because starting one requires the quiz to be published. Everything already submitted, and every mark already given, stays exactly where it was.
How it is done today
After the window closes, the link is still sitting in somebody's history, and one or two students go in late and sit it anyway. Then comes the argument about whose score counts, and the teacher ends up deciding by hand which attempts to throw away.
How it works

Open the quiz in the editor
Pick the quiz you want to close from the classroom's quiz list. Its current state is shown at the top of the editor.

Choose the close action
Take the close action from the menu at the top of the editor. The quiz's state changes to closed straight away.

New attempts stop
From then on a student trying to begin that quiz gets nowhere, because starting an attempt requires the quiz to be in a published state.

Results stay available
Closing removes nothing. The teacher can still open the submissions, mark what needs marking and look at the results as before.

Frequently asked questions
Does closing delete the submissions?
No. Every answer students gave and every mark already awarded stays in place. Closing only stops new attempts from being started; it does not touch work already done.
Is closing the same as reverting to draft?
No. Reverting to draft reopens the quiz for editing and takes it away from students. Closing leaves it finished and in place, with nobody able to start it fresh.
If I set an end date, do I still need to close it?
The quiz settings let you say how long it stays open. Closing by hand is still there for the times that does not fit, such as everyone finishing early or the test being called off.
