When two students' pages end up together
If the handwriting changes partway through what was sent as a single script, or two students' pages have ended up together in it, that is flagged and the total is withheld. Nothing is published until a teacher has looked at it and released it.

Photographing a hundred scripts on a phone, it is an easy mistake to let two students' pages run together. One student's answers end up under another's name and both marks are wrong. The worst of it is that there is no easy way to catch this before results go out.

The pages of one script are checked for consistency against each other, not against any stored sample.

A change is flagged
If the handwriting appears to change, that is flagged. It is one of the four serious flags, so it withholds the total on its own.

With the flag present the total is not published. The reason is written in both languages so the teacher knows where to look.

Having checked the pages, the teacher can release the total, or split the pages and send them again separately.

Does this identify whose script it is?
No. We do not claim to identify handwriting against a stored sample. What is checked is whether the pages within one script are consistent with each other.
Does different handwriting mean cheating?
No. The same student's writing can change when they are tired or rushing. The flag is a reason to look rather than an accusation, and the judgement is the teacher's.
Are the marks lost when this is flagged?
No, the marks are still worked out; only the total is withheld from publication. Once the teacher has checked and released it, it can be published.
Does a mismatched paper set behave the same way?
Yes, that is another of the serious flags. If the script does not match the question paper set, the total is withheld the same way, because it risks being marked against the wrong standard.
