Totals that do not add up are not published
Once marking finishes, the marks given to each question are added up and checked against the paper's own total. If they do not reconcile, the total is not published, even when the script is clean on every other check. This is a second, separate condition.

Does reconciling mean the marks are right?
No, and the distinction matters. This only checks that the marks add up to the paper's total. Whether each mark is fair is a separate question, and one for the teacher.
Do unanswered optional questions break the sum?
No. Where a student answers three of seven, the other four are accounted for separately, so a correctly marked script is not held back just for that.
Can a clean script still be held back?
Yes. This is a separate condition for publication. A script that passes every integrity check but does not reconcile still has its total withheld.
Are discounted answers still shown?
They appear in the report but are not added into the total. Which answers counted and which were set aside are both visible.
