Every name carries its own attendance history
While you take attendance, each student's name carries a short line built from their last ten confirmed records. A run of two or more absences is named, so is a run of lateness, and failing either the line shows their attendance rate as a percentage.
How it is done today
When taking attendance a teacher only ever looks at today. The student who has missed three in a row surfaces much later, when somebody runs a report. By then they have fallen well behind, and the easiest moment to pull them back, a phone call on the second day, has long gone.

It arrives with the list
When the class's active students load for attendance, the line beside each name loads with them. There is no separate report to open first.

The last ten classes are read
Each student's ten most recent attendance records are used, and only ones that have been confirmed. Records still sitting in draft are left out of the count.

The most urgent thing is what gets said
A run of two or more absences is named first. Failing that, a run of lateness. If neither applies, the line shows the attendance rate as a percentage.

The last five at a glance
Alongside the line sit the last five outcomes, so the pattern reads at a glance. A brand new student simply shows that this is their first attendance.

Frequently asked questions
How is the attendance rate worked out?
Out of the last ten confirmed records, the ones where the student was present or late are counted and turned into a percentage. Lateness counts towards it, so this is a measure of turning up, not of punctuality.
What shows beside a brand new student?
Someone with no previous records simply shows that this is their first attendance. No zero percent and no blank space, so a new student is never mistaken for someone who has been missing.
Do draft records count towards this?
No. Only confirmed attendance records are counted. A record that has not been confirmed yet affects nobody's line, so half-finished work does not create a misleading picture.
Does it rank students by risk?
No. The line is a description of what happened in the last ten classes. We do not produce a prediction, a risk score, or an ordering of students.
