Parents are notified automatically when a student is absent
In ClassTablet, as soon as a teacher saves attendance for a class, the parents linked to each absent student get an automatic alert in their ClassTablet inbox, as a push notification and by email. Nobody in the office has to phone anyone, and parents can switch these alerts off in their own notification settings.
How it is done today
In many institutions a parent finds out about absences at the end of the month, from the register or a teacher's phone call. Someone in the office works down a list every day, calls go unanswered and numbers have changed. So when a student leaves home but never reaches class, nobody at home hears about it that day.

During class the teacher marks each student present, absent, late or excused from a phone or computer, and saves.

The moment attendance is saved, ClassTablet creates a separate high-priority notification for every student marked absent.

A parent gets one alert per attendance record. Correcting the record later, from absent to present or the other way round, sends no new alert.

How do parents hear about an absence?
ClassTablet sends a notification to the parent's account inbox, a push notification to their phone and an email. The parent's account has to be linked to the student.
Does the teacher have to send a message?
No. The teacher only saves attendance. ClassTablet sends the alert to the parents of every absent student on its own.
Can parents turn these alerts off?
Yes. Parents can switch attendance alerts off, and back on, in their notification settings. While they are off, absence alerts are not sent to that parent.
Which plans include absence alerts?
Because parents need an account, absence alerts work on the Standard and Custom plans, which include the parent portal. Standard costs ৳20 per student per month.
