Where an AI marking job has got to
Once AI marking starts, the button keeps checking the job for itself and shows which stage it is at until it finishes. Completion or failure is reported and the checking stops, so the teacher never has to refresh the page to find out what happened.
How it is done today
Hand a script to the AI and see nothing, and the teacher cannot tell whether it is running, stuck or failed. So they press again, the same script is paid for twice, and now there are two results to reconcile.

Starting a job hands the button its id, and it checks the status by itself from then on without the teacher doing anything.

The current stage comes back too, so the screen can say where the time is going rather than only that something is running.

Once the job reaches a final state the checking stops, and the message shown depends on whether it succeeded or failed.

The overall confidence and a low-confidence flag both come back, which is how a teacher knows which scripts need a closer look.

Can you watch another teacher's job?
No. The job is checked against the teacher it belongs to, and a mismatch means the status is not shown. The route is not open to students either.
Is the reason for a failure available?
Yes, the failure reason is stored on the job and comes back with the status, so a teacher can see what went wrong before trying again.
Does low confidence mean the result is wrong?
No, it means at least one question was set aside for marking by hand because the AI could not settle it. The flag tells the teacher this script needs more attention.
