Mark short answers yourself, without a save button
When a ClassTablet quiz is submitted, multiple choice, checkbox and true or false questions are scored against the answer key straight away. A teacher opens one submission and types a mark beside any short answer the key could not match. Each mark saves itself a moment after you stop typing.
How it is done today
Even when the quiz is online, somebody still has to read the written answers. A teacher works through them one at a time, notes marks on paper, then adds up a total per student. If the browser closes or a phone call interrupts, there is no record of how far they got, and the same answer ends up being read twice.

Open one submission
From the quiz's submissions list in the classroom, open a student's attempt. Their answers are shown question by question, in the order the quiz was set.

Skip what is already scored
Multiple choice, checkbox and true or false questions arrive with marks filled in, because they were matched against the correct answers you set. Only the rest need reading.

Type a mark on the short answers
Read any answer the key could not match and give it a mark within that question's points. You can also overwrite a mark that was awarded automatically if you disagree with it.

Saving takes care of itself
A moment after you stop typing, the mark is saved, so there is no save button to remember. Anything still pending is sent before you navigate away from the page.

Frequently asked questions
Does AI mark these answers?
No. Marks in a ClassTablet quiz come from one of two places: matching the correct answers you set, or a teacher reading the answer. No AI grades quiz answers or suggests a mark for them.
How does short answer matching work?
When writing the question you give a correct answer and any acceptable alternatives. A student's wording is matched against those, ignoring differences in case and punctuation. Anything that does not match is left for the teacher.
Does the student see the mark straight away?
No. Marking and releasing a result are separate actions. Until the teacher releases the grades for that attempt, the student cannot see the mark you have given.
What if I stop halfway through?
Nothing is lost. Each mark saves itself moments after you type it, so if the browser closes the marks you already gave are still there and you carry on from where you stopped.
