The short way to seat somebody you already know
An administrator gives an email address and a role, and that person becomes a member of the institution. If no account exists for the address the request is refused and you are told to have them sign up first. Somebody who is already a member simply has their role rewritten.
How it is done today
The person who keeps your accounts, or the one who runs the software, often has a ClassTablet account already; what they lack is a place at your institution. Opening a fresh account for them leaves the same human being holding two, and neither one has the whole history.
How it works

Open the assign panel
From above the member list, open the panel for adding a member by email address.

Type the email address
Enter the address of the person you want to add. A likely typo in the domain is pointed out before you submit.

Choose the role
Pick administrator, teacher or student. Leaving it alone assigns the administrator role.

Add them
If the account is found, the person becomes a member of your institution; if they were already a member, the role you chose replaces the old one.

Frequently asked questions
What if no account exists for that address?
The request is refused, saying the user was not found and asking you to have them sign up first. For somebody with no account at all, use the page for adding a member instead.
Which roles can be given here?
Administrator, teacher and student. Leaving the choice alone gives the administrator role, since handing over responsibility is what this step is mostly used for.
Can the organization owner's role be changed this way?
No. The owner's role is protected, so an attempt to move that person into a different role is refused.
