A reminder 24 hours before the assignment is due
When you publish an assignment, ClassTablet reads its due date and queues a reminder for exactly 24 hours beforehand. At that moment the students in the classroom get it inside the app and as a push alert on their phone. If everyone has already submitted by then, no reminder is sent at all.
How it is done today
Everyone hears the deadline on the day it is announced, and then forgets it. A week later the teacher finds half the class has submitted nothing, and the students say they never noticed the date. So the teacher posts another reminder in the class group, which is more work and depends every single time on the teacher remembering to do it.

Queued the moment you publish
When you publish the assignment to a classroom, ClassTablet works out its due date. A date set for that specific classroom wins; otherwise the assignment's own date is used.

It waits for the 24-hour mark
The reminder is queued for exactly 24 hours before the deadline. If that moment has already passed when you publish, meaning there is under a day left, this reminder is skipped.

Nothing is sent if the class is done
Just before sending, ClassTablet checks whether any enrolled student still has no submission. If nobody is outstanding, the whole reminder is dropped and no phone buzzes for nothing.

It arrives in-app and by push
The reminder reaches the classroom's students as a ClassTablet notification and a push alert. A student can switch reminders of this kind off in their own notification settings.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if there is no due date?
No reminder is queued. ClassTablet looks first for a date set on the classroom, then for the assignment's own date. With neither of them there is no moment to send at, so nothing is scheduled.
Does a student who already submitted still get it?
If anyone in the class is still outstanding, the reminder goes to all of the classroom's students, including those who have submitted. When every student has submitted, the reminder is not sent to anybody.
Does the reminder go by email or SMS?
No. This reminder arrives as a ClassTablet notification and a push alert on the phone. We do not claim email or SMS for it; an institution admin can send an SMS separately if that is needed.
Does deleting the assignment stop the reminder?
Yes. Just before sending, ClassTablet checks that the assignment still exists. If it has been deleted the reminder stops there and nothing reaches the students.
