Most of the marking is done the moment a quiz is submitted
When a student submits a quiz in ClassTablet, the multiple choice, checkbox and true or false answers are scored against the teacher's answer key immediately. Short answers the key could not match are left for the teacher. Whether the student sees a result at that point is a setting on the quiz.
How it is done today
After a paper exam, results take days because every script has to pass through somebody's hands. Yet matching multiple choice and true or false answers is purely mechanical work, with no reason for a teacher's evening to go into it, while the class waits to find out how they did.

Work through the questions
The student answers question by question. Where there is a time limit, the timer at the top shows how much is left, so the end does not arrive as a surprise.

Submit
Once submitted, answers in that attempt can no longer be changed, so it is worth a last look before sending it in.

Scoring runs
Multiple choice, checkbox and true or false answers are matched against the correct answers the teacher set. Short answers are matched too, ignoring differences in case and punctuation.

Results, if the teacher allows
When building the quiz the teacher chooses whether results appear after submitting and whether correct answers are revealed. If not, the class hears their results later.

Frequently asked questions
What happens when the time runs out?
Where the quiz has a time limit, the attempt ends when the time is up and the answers given until then are kept. The timer at the top shows the remaining time throughout.
Can answers be changed after submitting?
Not in that attempt. If the teacher allowed more than one attempt and the student has some left, they can take the quiz again from the start.
When are short answer marks added?
Once a teacher has read the answers the key could not match and given them a mark, those points join the total. So a quiz with written questions may not show a full score right away.
