Give each classroom its own Meet rules
The classroom edit page in ClassTablet carries a Live class meeting settings card. Seven sections let you set who can join without knocking, which teachers become co-hosts, whether students join as viewers, who controls chat and screen share, and whether the class records and transcribes itself.
How it is done today
An ordinary Meet link lets anyone in, so a stranger turns up mid-class, shares their screen or drops links in the chat. Teachers end up changing the settings by hand before every class, and the one class they forget is the one left open. With several batches a week that routine stops being workable.

Open the classroom for editing
Go to the classroom and edit it. Further down sits the Live class meeting settings card, split into seven sections, each with a line explaining what it does.

Decide who can join
Access offers three choices: invite-only, organisation members and invited people, or anyone with the link. Enrolled students with a Gmail can be allow-listed so they never have to knock.

Pick hosts and moderation
Make every teacher with a Gmail a co-host, or hand-pick them. The same card sets whether chat, screen share and reactions are open to everyone or to hosts and co-hosts only.

Turn on recording and notes
Recording and AI starts the recording, transcript and notes when the class begins, and decides whether students get them automatically or only when you release them.

What happens automatically
Once the settings are saved, every new Meet link for that classroom is created with those rules already applied, with nothing to change before each class.

Frequently asked questions
Is this on every plan?
Google Meet integration is part of the negotiated Custom plan. Until your organisation's Google Workspace is connected, the card says you can configure the settings now and they apply once an admin turns the feature on.
Do the settings change links already sent out?
No. The settings are applied when a new Meet link is generated for the classroom. Links created before the change keep working under the rules they were made with.
What if the classroom runs on Zoom?
On a Zoom classroom, viewer-only joining, per-feature moderation locks and smart notes do nothing, because Zoom's API does not offer them. The card says so where it applies.
Can a student without a Gmail still join?
Yes, but they have to knock and a host lets them in. The allow-list works on Gmail addresses, so a student without one cannot be admitted automatically.
