Pick the route the news arrives by
Each person can switch the routes news reaches them by off or on in their own settings. Switching a route off stops suppressible notifications going that way. Anything marked as not suppressible, though, is sent without the preferences being consulted at all.
How it is done today
Sending everything to everybody by every route teaches people to clear notifications without reading them, and after that the one notice that genuinely mattered is lost in the same pile as the rest.
How it works

Open notifications in settings
Open your own settings and go to the notifications section, where the routes are listed together.

Read each route in turn
Each route has its own switch, with a line beside it saying what kind of news travels that way.

Switch off what you do not want
Switching one route off leaves the others exactly as they were. One does not change with another.

Save it
Once saved, the setting is held against your own name and read the next time anything is sent.

Can every route be switched off?
Each route can be switched off on its own. Anything marked as not suppressible is still sent even so.
What if the settings have never been changed?
With nothing stored, a prepared set of defaults is returned instead, so the page never comes up empty.
Does changing one switch save the others too?
No. Every field in the request is separate and optional, so a single switch can be sent on its own.
