Handling requests to join a classroom
In ClassTablet a student asking to join a class does not walk straight in. Their request waits on a pending list, and a teacher or admin of that classroom works through the list approving or rejecting each one, with the decision passed back to the student.
Once a class code has been passed around, keeping track of who is walking in becomes hard. The pending list keeps that control with the teacher. The pages below cover how approving a request works step by step.
Features in this area
- Take a student into the class from the pending list
A student asking to join waits on a pending list. When a teacher of that classroom approves the request, they become an active student straight away.
- Approving an enrolment from the student list
Pending enrolments can be approved or rejected straight from the classroom's student list, without a separate page, and a reason can be recorded.
- Pick students and put them in the class
Instead of waiting for requests, a teacher picks students and puts them straight into the class. A problem with one does not hold up the rest.
- The classroom roster in a single table
One table per class: name, roll number, email and phone, how many published assignments each student has submitted, and this month's fee status.
- Who is waiting to join this class
One panel shows the students waiting to be let into this class. A red count sits on the button, so you know there is work before you open it.
- Turn away a request meant for another batch
Send back a request that came to the wrong batch in one tap. Who decided is recorded, the student is told, and they can be added again later.
- Look up a student by phone number
Type a mobile number and the matching student in your institution appears with name and roll number, whether the number is written locally or in full.
- Every class's waiting list in one panel
One panel gathers the join requests waiting on every class you teach, grouped by classroom, each group with its own count and its own button.
Frequently asked questions
Is an admission form the same as a join request?
No, they are two separate paths. Submitting an online admission form adds the applicant to the class directly, with no approval step. A join request makes nobody active until a teacher decides.
Who can see a request?
Only the teachers and admins attached to that classroom. Someone outside it is not even told whether the request exists, so the list stays inside the class it belongs to.
What is kept after a decision?
Who took the decision is stored on the enrolment record. For a rejection a reason can also be written down, and it stays readable on the record afterwards.
