Attendance for an online class comes from the meeting
Open an online class in a ClassTablet classroom and go to its participation page to see everyone who was in that day's meeting. Each name carries the time they joined, how long they stayed and what percentage of the class that was, along with which enrolled student the name was matched to.
How it is done today
Taking attendance in an online class means reading out names mid-lesson and losing ten minutes to it. And a student who joined, muted and walked away is marked present all the same. Downloading the meeting service's own report and reconciling it in a spreadsheet is not something a teacher has time for.
How it works

Open the class participation page
Pick an online class from the classroom's class list and open its participation page. The date and the class start and end times are shown at the top.

Read the numbers
Cards at the top give the total number of participants, how many names matched a student, how many did not, and how many students are enrolled in the classroom.

Read the table
Each row has the participant's name, the matching status, when they joined, how long they stayed and their share of the class. Unmatched rows sort to the top.

Check another date
Use the date picker at the top to move to another day. The same weekly class on a different date opens on the same page.

Join times and durations are pulled from the meeting service on their own and matched against the names of enrolled students.

Frequently asked questions
Does this work for classes held in the room?
No. This page is filled from Google Meet or Zoom meetings. Attendance for a class taught in person is taken on the attendance page instead.
What does it show while the class is running?
A marker appears at the top and the figures describe the meeting as it stands, meaning who is in the room right now. The final counts settle once the class has ended.
What does unmatched mean?
The name someone joined the meeting under did not line up with any enrolled student, which happens with nicknames or a different English spelling. A teacher can join it to the right student by hand.
Which plan is this on?
Participation data comes from the Google Meet or Zoom connection, and that connection is part of the negotiated Custom plan.
